Lithothamnium calcarium is a rare and precious bioclastic mineral also known as red alga or calcareous algae. After dying, it sinks to the bottom of the sea and mineralizes. The calcareous algae bioclasts are formed by calcium carbonate and magnesium contenting more than 70 oligoelements, mainly Fe, Mn, B, Ni, Cu, Zn, Mo, Se and Sr.. The minerals are today applied in pharmacology, nutraceuticals, cosmetics, food diets, bone implants, animal nutrition, soil conditioner for agriculture, potabilization of water and treatment of water in lakes.
